THE NEW RIGA THEATRE is a repertory theatre funded by the state, committed to providing innovative art that reflects the contemporary spectator's independent thinking in both content and form. At the core of the theatre's artistic principles is a focus on maintaining high standards of professionalism, ethics, and aesthetics. The theatre prides itself on having an intellectually engaging and visually appealing repertory, catering to a modern, educated, and socially active audience.
The theatre was established in 1992, and in 1997, Alvis Hermanis took over as the artistic director. The New Riga Theatre is located in the Miera Street district's creative former tobacco factory building, while its original site in the city center has been refurbished.
