Digital Twin for Oil & Gas — Built on Survey-Grade As-Built Reality

Most digital twins fail on bad geometry. We deliver the survey-grade as-built foundation — millimetre-accurate point clouds and 3D/BIM models — that your oil & gas digital twin is built on. For brownfield, offshore and decommissioning assets across Europe, the North Sea and worldwide.

What is a digital twin in oil & gas?

A digital twin in oil & gas is a continuously maintained virtual replica of a physical asset — a platform, refinery or process plant — that combines accurate 3D geometry with operational data, so teams can plan, engineer and operate against a true-to-life model. Its foundation is a survey-grade as-built capture of the asset as it physically exists today.

01 · the problem

A digital twin is only as good as the reality underneath it

Complex ageing piping on an offshore platform topside — the as-built reality drawings miss

North Sea and European assets are ageing. Drawings are decades old, lost, or no longer match a structure modified a dozen times. Any twin — and any safe brownfield, turnaround or decommissioning plan — is only as reliable as the as-built data beneath it. Capturing that current-state reality accurately and safely is the hard part. It is the part we specialise in.

02 · what we deliver

The accurate foundation your digital twin depends on

Reality capture

High-density laser scanning of topsides, plants and modules — live or shut-down.

Registered point cloud

Millimetre-grade, cleaned and QA'd to survey tolerances.

As-built 3D / BIM

Intelligent, object-based models at the LOD you require.

Clash-free basis

A reliable basis for brownfield modification and engineering.

Handover-ready data

Formatted for your platform (e.g. AVEVA E3D). We don't lock you in.

We deliver the as-built reality layer — capture, point cloud and model. The live twin, IoT and simulation run in your environment. Subsea and bathymetric work via vetted partners.

03 · use cases

Where an as-built foundation pays off

  • Brownfield modification & revamps

design against the real structure, not 30-year-old drawings; cut rework and site surprises.

  • Turnaround / shutdown planning

plan scope, access and prefabrication off an accurate model before the window opens.

  • Decommissioning

precise current-state geometry for severance planning, weight/COG estimation and verification.

  • Asset integrity

dimensional and deformation analysis from repeat high-density scans (the data layer, not the verdict).

  • Greenfield handover

as-built vs as-designed verification and a clean digital starting point from day one.

04 · why 3D Engineering

A specialist foundation partner, not a generalist

EU-based

EU data jurisdiction, GDPR, NDA.

The right tool for the job

Terrestrial, mobile (SLAM), drone and close-range scanning — we combine the optimal method for each asset, to survey-grade accuracy.

Foundation, not lock-in

We hand the as-built data into your platform (e.g. AVEVA E3D), not ours.

Proven on hard assets

Offshore, Caspian and MENA projects, anonymised on request.

05 · how we work

From asset to handover

1

Technical scoping

we discuss your asset, access, constraints and target data/LOD with our engineering team.

2

safe, planned scanning around your operational windows and permits.

3

Registration & QA

point cloud registered, cleaned and checked to survey-grade tolerances.

4

As-built modelling

3D / BIM / CAD at your required LOD.

5

Handover

data delivered in your formats, ready for your digital-twin / engineering platform.

06 · FAQ

Common questions

  • A continuously maintained virtual replica of a physical asset that combines accurate 3D geometry with operational data, so teams can plan, engineer and operate against a true-to-life model. Its foundation is a survey-grade as-built capture of the asset as it exists today.

  • A point cloud is the raw, millimetre-accurate measurement from laser scanning. A 3D/BIM model is an intelligent, object-based representation built from it. A digital twin adds live operational and engineering data on top. We deliver the first two — the reality foundation every digital twin depends on.

  • Terrestrial laser scanning captures geometry to a few millimetres. The registered point cloud and as-built model reflect the asset as it physically exists — including the brownfield modifications drawings usually miss.

  • We provide the accurate as-built data — point cloud and 3D/BIM model — formatted for your platform (such as AVEVA E3D). The live twin, IoT and simulation layers run in your environment; we don't lock you into ours.

  • Yes. We plan capture around operational windows, permits and simultaneous-operations constraints with safety-trained crews — standard for turnarounds and brownfield work.

  • Field capture is usually days, not weeks, depending on size and access; registration, QA and modelling follow. We scope it precisely in the technical consultation.

  • We're an EU-based engineering company; data is handled under EU jurisdiction and GDPR, and we work under NDA. Most projects are confidential — we share capability and anonymised references on request.

  • Registered point clouds (e.g. E57, RCP), as-built 3D/BIM/CAD at your required LOD, and data prepared for handover into your engineering and digital-twin platforms.
